Pirate Bay Founder Arrested

Phnom Penh - Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, co-founder of popular file-sharing site The Pirate Bay were arrested in Cambodia. Warg had detained in Phnom Penh after Sweden issued an international alert for the arrest.

Quoted from the BBC, Monday (03/08/2012), Warg was arrested on charges involving the illegal use of technology. The Swedish government also asked Warg returned to their home country to undergo the legal process.

"The arrest was made at the request of the Swedish authorities relating to crimes related to information technology," said police spokesman Kirth Chantharith Cambodia.

This case again raises the issue of how the Internet should be used to share copyrighted material.

Pirate Bay itself is one of the pioneers that encourages the growth of the Internet in some dakade. This website was built in 2003 by the Warg and Fredrik Neij to allow users to share large files more easily, including movies and other media files.

This provoked the attention of the Motion Picture Association of America and other similar agencies began suing sites like Pirate Bay into the realm of law.

The same thing happened to Kim Dotcom. Founder of file-sharing site Megaupload was arrested in connection with copyright content. January, the site is closed and all content therein belongs to the United States authorities with reasons for the interest of the investigation.

There was no Twitter and Facebook in Iran
